In the case of caregivers who want to work UK, they need to have any of the following requirements like a working holiday visa, UK ancestry visa, a valid EU passport, or UK right to abode certificates for them to be able to work UK in either contractual or permanent social work jobs. If you do not have any of the above mentioned papers, you need to have a sponsor who is a citizen of the United Kingdom and you need to be registered with the GSCC to work UK in the social care sector. The GSCC or the General Social Care Council was formed in October of 2001 to safeguard the standards for the social care workforce in England through setting and monitoring standards for the industry.

To further protect the social care industry and the caregiver who want to work UK, a law was passed that would require all social workers or caregivers who want to work UK to be registered with the GSCC on or before April 2005.
